According to reports and also personal experience, a normal human being depends 80% on outside market for his survival in every 2 days. While this pandemic has outbroken, what are the benefits and drawbacks of work from home policy? Millions of businesses are forced to agree with the work from home policy after the World Health Organization declared coronavirus epidemic into a pandemic. Companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft have already imposed work from home policy for some of its employees.
Let us see at the benefits of work from home policy:
1. Flexible schedule: You can eat at any time, take breaks at any time until and unless work is delivered.
2. Flexible clothing: In some organizations, dress codes following is really important. Well, when you are working from home, not anymore.
3.No office distractions: You can finally avoid uncomfortable and awkward debates between your co-workers/bosses regarding cryptocurrencies, Modi, etc.
4. Save money: Lunch is expensive, especially when you have to order/buy it every day. Everyday up-down from office to home and home to office also adds up in the expense lists. Well, you can save on that.
5. Spend more family time: What's better than working along with your kids on the dining table, or your parents who came to stay with you for a few weeks.
Now let us look at the drawbacks of Work-from-home policy:
1. The difficulty of sticking to a routine: There can be thousands of reasons for not being able to stick to the routine, unwanted dinner plans, wifi issues, lack of willpower, etc.
2. Missing important calls/meetings: Not everything can be available in the stretch of our hands. What if you took a break and missed the call of the most important client of the company?
3. Boredom: Office is just not a place with dedicated cabins to work but also to build up socially. It is a place for social gathering and discuss and debate on cryptocurrencies and investments which obviously not everyone can do with their families over a chai break.
4. Working slowly: Communication issues, wifi connectivity, no second monitoring (so unwanted breaks), this obviously hampers the flow. Offices have a kind of energy which home lacks.
5. Difficulty in management: Calling and making a record of what every member is doing, is really difficult especially when they are not accessible every minute.
As you begin to work longer and build more experience, learning to focus in any surrounding is a valuable life skill, and will only help your professional career in the long run.If you thrive on social interactions, feel inspired by seeing others working, and stay on track best if others see you, then working from the office is the way to go.
